5 Reasons Why Running is Good for the Soul

My Pandemic Crew and Now Friends!

Since the pandemic turned our world upside down in 2019–2020, running has seen an incredible surge in popularity. After months of being cooped up indoors, many of us craved fresh air, movement, and freedom—and running became the perfect escape. For countless people, it wasn’t just exercise; it was a way to reclaim space, find community, and break free from the monotony of home life.

Of course, running is far from a new phenomenon. The U.S. is home to some of the world’s oldest running clubs—like the New York Athletic Club, founded in 1868, and the New Orleans Athletic Club, established in 1898. The Road Runners Club of America began in 1958, while the Greater Boston Track Club launched in 1973. These groups are proof that running has always been more than just a fitness trend. It’s a ritual, a therapy for the mind, and a journey toward self-discovery. I met many of my good friends during a global pandemic, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. We are friends to this day and have built communities that are supportive, full of love, and always there when you need them.

Running is so much more, and I’ve listed 5 great reasons why, you should lace up those shoes and start moving!

💥 1. Mental Clarity

The steady rhythm of your footsteps and breath can melt away mental clutter. Stress, worries, and overthinking often fade into the background, leaving space for fresh perspective and calm.

💥 2. Confidence Boost

Every mile you run is proof of what you can achieve. Whether it’s your first 5K or your hundredth, crossing that finish line—real or imagined—builds a deep sense of accomplishment and self-belief.

💥 3. Nature Connection

Running outdoors invites you to soak in the sights, sounds, and scents of the world around you. Feel the wind on your face, hear the birds, and breathe in that crisp, fresh air—it’s a reminder of your place in something bigger.

💥 4. Mindfulness

With each stride, you’re present in the moment—attuned to your breathing, your heartbeat, and the gentle feedback from your muscles. It’s moving meditation, where your body and mind work in harmony.

💥 5. Freedom

No rules, no schedules—just you, your pace, and the open path. Running can be an escape from the noise of everyday life, giving you space to dream, reflect, or simply be.

Bottom line: Running has the power to refresh your mind, strengthen your spirit, and connect you to yourself in ways that go far beyond the miles. So grab your shoes, find your path, and let your soul run free.
