Running Fast and Feel’n Good!
Like Nina Simone's “Feel’n Good”!
I can NOT believe it’s June! I feel like I start every post with “I can NOT believe it’s…,” but time is flying by so fast. May is a wrap with a competitive half marathon and a 10K run under my belt. Even though each of my events was small, my performance was a big deal. It’s been a long time since I’ve hit the mid 7-8 minute pace, and I felt completely comfortable, injury free, and happy! Knock on wood. Knock! Knock!
If you didn’t know, I moved from San Diego to northern Virginia, and I’ve been here for a solid three months, and I have to say, I love it. Of course, like anything else, there are a few challenges and a couple of speeding tickets along the way (CA, we drive so much faster than I thought), but I’m finding my stride and making small moves to a great life ahead. I think I’m in better shape than in prior years because I find a new trail daily! Like the beach, the trees and the greenery are incredible, and I’m all in love.
For my first half marathon of the year, I chose Mother’s Day weekend and ran in my hometown of St. Charles, MO, a small town outside St. Louis. As a child, there were only a handful of houses and several acres of cows and horses. I think we were one of five black families at the time. St. Charles is now a bustling town with larger homes and A LOT more people! It was great to hang out with my parents just because I could; the best feeling was to see them cheering and laughing as I crossed the finish line. They couldn’t believe I could still run, even though I hadn’t stopped since college!
